Chital Deer in Corbett: The Forest’s Alert Neighbours

Chital Deer in Corbett: The Forest’s Alert Neighbours

Learn to notice chital deer, their social behaviour, and the small forest signals that make a safari rewarding. The Big Mama Eco Resort is at Shivlalpur Joshi, Bail Pokhra, Ramnagar, Uttarakhand 263140.

Look beyond the big cats

Chital, also called spotted deer, are among the familiar herbivores of India’s forest landscapes. A herd feeding in an opening can bring the whole scene to life: watch how individuals lift their heads, scan, and return to feeding.

Listen as well as look

A naturalist may explain alarm calls and the way one animal’s attention changes a herd’s behaviour. Such sounds can have different causes, so avoid treating any call as proof that a predator is nearby. Learning to observe without jumping to conclusions makes the drive richer.

Give grazing animals room

Keep the vehicle still and quiet while wildlife is near. Do not encourage a closer approach or feed animals. Follow the current reserve rules and appreciate the everyday life that sustains Corbett’s ecosystem.
